A Fargo man is facing animal cruelty charges after a disturbing livestream on the platform "Pump.fun". 25-year-old Daniel Lewis allegedly killed his dog "Rover" in a misguided attempt to boost the value of his cryptocurrency.
According to investigators, Lewis livestreamed himself holding his dog hostage in order to try and get viewers a significant price increase on his cryptocurrency, only letting his doggo if his online coin reached a market cap of $1 million.
However, the cryptocurrency failed to gain traction, and Lewis grew increasingly frustrated during the livestream. When it became clear his coin wouldn't reach his target value, Lewis allegedly grabbed his dogand threw it out of the frame, with viewers reporting loud yelps and thumps.
Following this incident, local authorities were alerted by viewers and investigators found evidence of the dog sadly no longer being with us. Lewis was arrested on the scene and is currently in jail on a $25,000 bond and faces animal cruelty charges.
The incident has sparked outrage in the online cryptocurrency community, with many users condemning Lewis' actions and calling for stricter regulations on the industry. Animal rights groups have also spoken out, urging people to treat their pets with compassion.
